Jody & Koda

Our family welcomed Jody and Koda on Sunday, December 9, 2007. While on Petfinder.com I saw a picture of Koda, and I had to have him! My three girls and I headed out to PetSmart in Highland hoping to find him and/or any other cat that was willing to have us, and we did. Jody’s picture wasn’t on the site. She called out to us with her big beautiful eyes, and we couldn’t resist. We never changed their names because we liked what had already been chosen for them...they seemed to fit perfectly. They have brought so much joy and laughter to our home, and we love them dearly. Thank you all for caring for them and so many other animals, and for trusting us to do the same!

Ozzy

When we got Ozzy last year around Christmas, nobody wanted him because they thought he was too big. We had seen him earlier in the newspaper twice. I finally talked my parents into getting a cat, since our cat Tigger had died last year. ( He was 19 years old) I showed them Ozzy in the paper and they said that we would go and look at Petco in Highland. When we got there, we realized that he wasn't a little cat, he was a big cat. He was sitting there in the cage, as everyone around him was making fat jokes at him. I knew he was the one my brother and I wanted. So, we got him! He was an early Christmas present from our parents. As soon as we brought him home, he was real shy. But as the week went on, Ozzy became a lot more comfortable. We got him some toys. Ozzy loves to play. He likes to take his favorite toys out of his basket and take them to us to play. He likes to play hid and seek with my dad, and he likes to sleep all around the house. He never wants to be in a room alone, so he follows everyone around the house. Ozzy likes to sleep with us on our beds. He also enjoys eating!!! Ozzy has become a part of the family and you will be glad to know that he is now happy and very, very loved. Thank you for Ozzy. Please enjoy our pictures of Ozzy.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Joe Cocker

Dear Treasured Friends,
My family received your request for happy/funny stories concerning adopted pets for your newsletter. Well, we are writing to tell you how "HAPPY" we are with "Joey" (Joe Cocker) the 5 yr. old Cocker Spaniel we adopted thru you from Griffith Animal Control. Prior to our adopting Joe in July 2008, he spent 2 months "in da joint". When we got him he was very standoffish. He didnt like men (including me) or other dogs at all. He has a very ferocious bark and aggressive demeanor. Initially we didnt know if this would work out at all. When he came near us he would let us pet him, but would not lay close to us. He wouldnt let us get close to his paws. Although Joe was house broken, we did have our share of accidents. Not knowing any of Joe's past history, we chalked his behavior up to Joe's treatment from his previous life.

I took Joe through beginner and intermediate obedience school at petsmart. Joe is extremely smart. I think he has had prior training. Now he follows us everywhere we go. He lays close to us, loves to be petted and have his stomach rubbed. We can even massage his paw pads now. He loves it !!! He loves to go for walks and rides in the car. He is extremely protective of us in his home. (I cant even hug my wife without Joe jumping up, wiggling his way between us, and pushing me away.) He still exhibits aggressive behavior towards all large dogs. But surprisingly has made friends with several dogs (smaller than he is). The odd thing is that the dog owners of the dogs he gets along with tell me their dogs are extremely aggressive towards other dogs except Joe. It must be a dog thing !!!! We thought about seeing a "Dog Whisperer", but after what happened last week when my wife was home alone convinced me to appreciate Joe's behavior. A man came to our door when no one is usually home. He rang the doorbell several times, then pounded on the door. Joe didnt bark. My wife, who is normally not home did not want to answer the door because the guy looked creepy. When no one answered, the guy started walking around toward the back of the house. Joe caught sight of him. The hair stood up on his back. He stood up on his hind legs at the front window and went nuts. No one had ever seen him that aggressive. Well the guy saw Joe and started running down the block. The police stated the man's description resembled that of a person who they suspect is burglarizing homes in our neighborhood.

Forget that Dog Whisperer !!!!! I like Joe just the way he is. He saved our home and I know that guy is not coming back as long as he is on guard. That's what Joey has been up too !!!! Thanks Treasured friends for giving us a loving, life long companion!
